New Designs for Longitude 131° Unveiled by Baillie Lodges

Baillie Lodges has unveiled plans for the multi-million dollar enhancement of its acclaimed desert retreat Longitude 131° at Uluru (Ayers Rock), including the addition of a spectacular new premium suite and the property’s first dedicated spa.

Under the direction of architect Max Pritchard – the designer of Baillie Lodges’ award-winning Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island – Longitude 131° will next year introduce several new facilities while at the same time redeveloping its central Dune House in a $6 million project.

The enhancements will complement the extensive improvements already completed at Longitude 131° since Baillie Lodges took over operations in 2013, including the refurbishment of its 15 tented pavilions and this year’s addition of private balconies overlooking Uluru. Works will take place in mid-2017 and are expected to be completed in the second half of the year.

Enhancements include:

·        A new premium suite, the Dune Pavilion, designed to offer the ultimate in desert luxury. Positioned discretely away from other pavilions, it will be the first accommodation to offer views of both Uluru and nearby Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and will feature expansive glass walls, exterior decks, separate living and sleeping areas and a private plunge pool.

·        A major redevelopment of the central Dune House to enhance its space and views while introducing a new contemporary style. Additions include a new entry and reception area, a redesigned tented canopy, a dedicated bar area to complement the lounge and dining spaces and interior furnishings from commissioned Australian designers.

·        A signature spa facility, taking inspiration from the desert environment and the traditions of the indigenous Anangu people.  Designed to meld with the surrounding landscape, it will offer an exclusive treatment space with a private outdoor deck and spa pool, providing a sanctuary for indulgent massages, facials and body wraps.

·        A re-landscaped swimming pool, featuring curved decks, contemporary daybeds, stylish outdoor furnishings and a poolside bar.

·        A new dune-top bar and deck offering sweeping views of Uluru, Kata Tjuta and the surrounding desert landscape – perfect for sunset drinks or dinner under the stars.  Located at the highest point at Longitude 131°, it will feature lounging and dining areas as well as a horizon plunge pool with views to Uluru.

Baillie Lodges Managing Director James Baillie said the enhancements would provide the most extensive improvements at Longitude 131° since its inception.

“Our long-term vision for Longitude 131° is to redefine desert luxury in Australia and position the property among the world’s best remote lodges,” Mr Baillie said. “This next phase will introduce new levels of luxury while minimising the impact on the surrounding desert environment.”
