South African Sunrise Anyone?

South African Tourism, in partnership with Taronga, Sunrise and &Beyond, is offering four lucky Australians the chance to win a trip-of-a-lifetime, see rhinos in the wild in South Africa and experience the country’s rhino conservation efforts first hand.

In an effort to increase awareness of the plummeting rhino populations amidst renewed fears that the species is facing the risk of extinction, and to raise valuable funds for conservation programs, South African Tourism has partnered with Taronga Wild! Rhinos public art exhibition, which kicked off this month across New South Wales, and will run until 28 April

And while the general public can view the herd of 125 life–sized colourful rhino and calf sculptures painted by artists and locals, one lucky Australian family of four, will also have the chance to travel to South Africa, see rhinos in real life and participate in their conservation, by watching Sunrise this week and following the prompts to enter.

South African Tourism General Manager Australasia, Lalie Ngozi explains, “South Africa is committed to preserving the populations of these magnificent animals, by combating poaching, working to change perceptions in markets where rhino horn is used, and conducting breeding and conservation programs.”

“We want to make sure future generations will have the opportunity to see black and white rhinos in their natural habitat, and tick this incredible experience off their Bucket List.”

The competition is running on Sunrise until 21 February, entry is via the website and the prize which is valued at to $29,000 includes four economy class flights from Australia to Johannesburg thanks to Qantas and South African Tourism, and accommodation in 4-5 star properties including &Beyond’s Phinda Private Game Reserve.

The winners will spend a night in the ‘city of gold’ Johannesburg, two nights in the surf-side city of Durban and three nights at the spectacular &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve where they will go on a safari, see the rhinos in their natural habitat and assist with &Beyond’s long-term rhino protection programs. 

Transfers, domestic flights, city tours and some meals are included thanks to South African Tourism. More information on the competition can be found here.
